Clarence Street

Running between the West end of Princess Street (opposite Albert Square) and Tib Lane - Clarence Street is a narrow cut-through and another reminder of long disappeared street pattern in Manchester.

Two of Manchester's more consistent restaurants are to be found on Clarence Street. - Piccolinos and Croma.

There is also a Starbucks (never mind) and a couple of bars.

Looking up Clarence Street towards Tib Lane you will see the top of a large white building.  This is the old headquarters of the Manchester Ship Canal company. It is on the top part of King Street - one of the small number of hills in central Manchester that are the remains of an old river terrace of the river Irwell.

This terrace can be traced around Piccadilly through High street towards Shude Hill, dropping down Miller Street to the banks of the River Irk.  The river Irk feeds into the Irwell at Victoria station and is hidden from view apart from a stretch along Corporation Street.
